Laura - Artists Statement

I am lucky enough to live in South Devon, rolling hills of lush greens, breathtaking rich orange and red beach sunsets, quaint village pubs… what more could an artist wish for to generate inspiration!

I have lived in Devon for eleven years with my two children. I was born in Somerset in 1967, my passion for art was inspired at a young age by my Mother who is an accomplished artist. Many of her sketches are fashion motivated and I strongly believe she would of been a successful fashion designer if it were not for her commitment to her family.

Art has always been my love, but a career within my Fathers business took me on a different path.

After the obligatory mid-life crisis aged 36 I realised that if I didn’t follow my dream now, then I never will!

I started painting in acrylics in 2004, the medium felt perfect for me, rich and vibrant colours, versatile in texture and quick drying when needed for layering or kept wet for mixing colours directly onto the canvas, enabling bursts of inspiration and frenzy, to gentle contemplation and reflection.

I create my Art because there is an obsession for creativity within me that must be expressed. Painting is an emotional journey where the mind, brush, paint, colour and texture work as one creative creature. As separate entities these co-exist and orbit around each other sometimes one dominating the other.

I am constantly developing and evolving my styles and methods and with each piece of work experience an enormous sense of fulfilment.
